Texas State Historical Association

Howdy again y’all!

Hope I’m not wearin’ out my welcome, but I had to let you know about these cool gifts available from TSHA.  Click on their banner to check out their Holiday Gift Guide for some great specials on books & limited edition fine art prints.  Or how about a Gift Membership for the history lover in your life?  A great gift supporting a great effort to preserve and promote Texas History.  They are sayin’, “Order by December 17 for delivery by Christmas”, so I wanted to let you know in plenty of time to take advantage.

I also wanted to introduce my new and improved Zazzle store at  I updated the layout as well as added some new gift items.   Let me know what you think of it.

Thanks for all of your support!  So far, is off to a great start and I have big plans for the future.  Thanks to all y’all for sharing my efforts with your friends and social networks.  It really works! Now I ask you all for some feedback.  Let me know how you like the site, if it is easy for you to navigate or if I could make some improvements that would make it easier to find your way around.

Don’t forget to nominate your favorite Texas Artisan!  Let me know your favorites from the Holiday Events you attend and share your photos with us on Facebook.

I am so excited to share this Totally Texas Featured Artisan, Cindi Hendrickson of  Cindi is an extremely talented Jewelry Artisan of the highest caliber.  I have been following Creative Habits on Facebook for a couple of months now as she has been upgrading her garage studio and creating new pieces.  I was so impressed by her skills and dedication to her craft, it almost superseded my awe of her creative talent.  See some of Cindi’s works on her website or better yet, see her in person at the Cherrywood Art Fair this weekend.

The Cherrywood Art Fair is an East Austin tradition in its 11th year hosted by the Chula League.  Along with Cindi and her Creative Habits Artisan Jewelry collection, the Cherrywood Art fair will feature a wide variety of Texas art and artisans from woodworking to ‘iPhonography’, they all look very intriguing.  There will also be food trailers, music and fun stuff for the kiddos while you shop. The event is held at Maplewood Elementary in Austin (map).  Click on their poster to find a schedule of activities and link to a booth map.

From my own collection this week I’m introducing the Yellow Rose Series of designs available on gifts and souvenirs from TotallyTexasGifts on Zazzle.  There are coordinating fleece jackets, messenger bags, IPad Mini Cases, IPad portfolios, phone cases and more, all with the Yellow Rose theme.

‘Til next time, enjoy this Totally Texas Holiday season, 80 degree weather and all.

A corral of treasures to be found at Texana Lane, Lockhart, Texas

Happy Yule Y’all!

Hope y’all are enjoying a great kickoff to your holidays this weekend with one of the many events we have going on around Central Texas.  Just check my Event Calendar to find one going on right now.I plan on popping over to the Dickens Christmas in Lockhart this evening and trying out my new Canon Power Shot SX500 IS digital camera on the Christmas lights.

Texana Lane sent their thanks for the mention in last week’s post.  I must say the pleasure was all mine.  Thanks to all y’all for passing on the word and supporting Lane and her lovely gallery/shop.  A great cure for the “Big Box Blues”.

My painting subject this week was the Yellow Rose of Texas and I felt compelled to dig around a bit  on the Texas State Historical Association website and learn both the facts and fiction behind this Texas icon.  I’m not sure if we did, but Texans sure could have invented the Tall Tale and the legend surrounding the “Yellow Rose of Texas” may be one of the tallest.  However I found both myth and history have a lot to teach us about our Texan identity.  Click the TSHA link above to read the full story, at least as it is told today.

Shop Totally Texas for the Holidays!

Ready or not, here come the holidays!  I found some real treats to help get you and the family in the proper festive spirit.

While I know everyone is chomping at the bit about Black Friday, I am actually looking more forward to Shop Small Saturday, November 24.  It is a great time to ditch the big box crowds and head out to the ‘hoods & ‘burbs for some local flavor.  Almost all the merchants will have special goodies and great prices for the occasion and they will be in a good mood as will you when you actually enjoy a leisurely shopping experience rather than running a foot race through it.

There is no shortage of Arts & Crafts shopping opportunities this time of year (just check my Event Calendar), but one of the first communities to light the Yule Log will be Lockhart, Texas with their annual Dickens Christmas on Saturday, December 1.  The festivities begin Friday night, November 30, with a Lighted Christmas Parade.  The downtown businesses will stay open late both Friday and Saturday nights and I discovered a couple of local shops you will not want to miss.  Click on the Happy Yuletide image to learn more about a Dickens Christmas in Lockhart and these unique Texan originals.

And don’t forget to check out Totally Texas Gifts on Zazzle & Cafe Press.  You can purchase something with a Totally Texas Holiday design or design your own personalized gift.  Be sure to look for their promo codes to save $$ on products and shipping.  Click the holiday image to see some of the Totally Texas holiday designs.
Happy Yule Y’all!
