Texana collectibles at Texana Lane

A corral of treasures to be found at Texana Lane, Lockhart, Texas

Happy Yule Y’all!

Hope y’all are enjoying a great kickoff to your holidays this weekend with one of the many events we have going on around Central Texas.  Just check my Event Calendar to find one going on right now.I plan on popping over to the Dickens Christmas in Lockhart this evening and trying out my new Canon Power Shot SX500 IS digital camera on the Christmas lights.

Texana Lane sent their thanks for the mention in last week’s post.  I must say the pleasure was all mine.  Thanks to all y’all for passing on the word and supporting Lane and her lovely gallery/shop.  A great cure for the “Big Box Blues”.

My painting subject this week was the Yellow Rose of Texas and I felt compelled to dig around a bit  on the Texas State Historical Association website and learn both the facts and fiction behind this Texas icon.  I’m not sure if we did, but Texans sure could have invented the Tall Tale and the legend surrounding the “Yellow Rose of Texas” may be one of the tallest.  However I found both myth and history have a lot to teach us about our Texan identity.  Click the TSHA link above to read the full story, at least as it is told today.
